Media Lies: Aaj Tak TV Spread Misinformation about Kargil

Kargil, April 20, 2021: The Aaj Tak television news channel in a report on Monday spread major misinformation about Kargil district showing a recent video clip where people rush to get fresh vegetables.

The news channel reports that with the spread of Corona cases in the country people have started “panic baying” in various places and such a news report has come from Kargil district. Showing the visuals in Kargil the report said that due to fear of lockdown people have started buying vegetables at high prices.

Now, eyeing on the month of Ramazan and due to public pressure, the administration in Kargil Ladakh has airlifted vegetables to meet the demands. However the supply of a truck full of vegetable was not enough to meet the demand of around 1.5 lac population of the district.

It is also pertinent to mention that the administration via radio and other public announcements had assembled the people to distribute vegetables despite of rising Corona cases in the Union Territory.

“The Deputy Registrar Cooperative Societies, Kargil has informed the general public that the Department of Cooperatives UT, Ladakh is going to sell fresh vegetables (onion, cabbage, dates 200 gram packet) to the general public through the Meat Dealers Cooperative Society Limited Kargil tomorrow, the 18th of April, 2021 at 2 sale centres located at Pasha Meat Complex Main Bazar Kargil and Khree Sultan Cho Sports Stadium Biamathang as per past practice”, announced a press note issued by the Department of Information and Public Relations Kargil.

In another such media lie, the Aaj Tak news channel in the month of January had spread a rumor that a terrorist group named “Hisbul Momeneen” exists in Ladakh that was flayed and protested by people in Kargil and other parts of the country.
